TGIFrida Kahlo!

#stayfocused #createdaily #fridakahlo

Hello Creative People!

Hope you are all well on this awesome Friday!!

Well I am happy that I finally had some time to work in one of the travel art journals I received in the mail a few weeks ago.   The theme for this journal is "Frida."
I googled images of her and I took inspiration from a photo of her in a blue dress.  I know I had to make sure to captured the breaded hair, flowers or bows on her head and of course the unibrow.

Here are some process pics...

And here is the finished page...

This was my first "Frida" portrait and I know it will not be my last! I really enjoy doing my research and learning more about her.  I mean, I do remember learning about her as a fine art student way back when, but the details  I can recall are general.
I knew she was married to artist Diego Rivera, but didn't know that they got divorced and then remarried.  I knew she had physical limitations, but the fact is that she had polio as a child and at the age of 18 she was in a horrible vehicular accident, those details were not in my memory bank. During her recovery she began painting.
I figured out I knew so little about her. I think I spent more time reading about her than I did painting a version of her.

Well now it's time for this little "Frida" take a trip to Australia, then she will travel to New Zealand, before she makes her way back to her new home in California!
May she travel safe and make it to each destination in one piece!

Thank you very much for taking time to visit my blog, hope to see you again soon.

PS I already started on the next travel journal which is a woodland girl theme.  To check out my progress, please follow me on social media:

What's on your workdesk? Wednesday #9

#WOYWW #stayfocused #createdaily #ATCswaps

Greetings Happy Creative People!

Yes, it's Wednesday and it's that time again to share what's on my workdesk.  To be honest, I haven't really created anything since my last post (my hubby's on vaca and we've been having a lot of family time).  I do however have a lot of backed up swaps that need to get mailed.
Most of my swaps are for ATCs (artist trading cards).  As I have mentioned in other posts, I am part of several art swap groups.  It is fun and quite addicting because receiving art in the mail is like having Christmas morning at my mailbox! I get super excited and feel so special.  I even do a little dance every time, and I don't care if my neighbors think I'm crazy.
I would love to share exactly what I created with your but I don't want my swap partners to see the ATC prior to receiving them.  Since I like to be surprised to see my swap partner's take on the theme, I'm thinking they feel the same.
So the following are photos of the cards at some point in the creation process:

I always have fun creating ATCs and just as much fun going though all my craft stuff so I can include extra goodies in the envelope I send.
Here are some if the goodies I'm sending:

I hope the ladies that receive this like the ATC I made for them and enjoy the extras I added.

Thank you very much for visiting my page and hope to see you again soon!

What's on your workdesk? Wednesday #8

#WOYWW #stayfocused #createdaily

Happy Wednesday Beautiful People!

I know its been a while, but I'm here, I'm alive, and surviving summer vacation with my bubbas!
Anyway, I was trilled to receive some mail art this week.  I believe these are the last three before I receive mine back.
These journals have been traveling for almost a year, if I'm not mistaken, we started in Sept 2015.

It's always so exciting to see everyone's interpretation of the different themes.  It truly gets me in the mood to create.
I already started sketching in the journal of the woman who started this group, Miss Martha of Ayala Art.   Martha's theme is "Frida".  I've been an artist for many years and this is my first Frida, I'm super excited and hope I do her justice!

Here is my start...
Oh and as I was searching inspiration I found out that today, July 6th, would have been her 109th birthday!! How awesome is that... Felicidades Frida!

Well this is all for now... as always I regularly share my art via social media, so if you like, please follow along via my Instagram @csbuster, my facebook artist page, or via twitter @carmen_buster  .

Thank you very much for visiting my page and hope to see you again soon!
